Blokzijl
Trading city from the Golden Age
Pearl of the Zuiderzee. Stately merchant houses around the Havenkolk reveal a rich past, surrounded by numerous small breweries for thirsty folk; De Bierkade and the Brouwersgracht bear witness to this. Picturesque streets abound with listed monuments from the Golden Age. The high-water cannons, such as those posted along the quays of Blokzijl, are no longer in service. Once, they fired warning shots in the event of impending floods.
