Urk
The pearl of Flevoland
Urk is known for its picturesque alleys (ginkies), quaint squares, and authentic fishermen's cottages. Stroll along the harbors and promenade and enjoy beautiful panoramic views. The unique Urk lighthouse, whose light is the only one in the Netherlands to rotate counterclockwise, offers views of no fewer than three provinces.
At the nearby Fishermen's Monument, you can read the names of the fishermen who were lost at sea. The highest point in Flevoland can also be found on Urk, at the oldest church in Urk; the Kerkje aan de Zee. Want to know what Urk looked like hundreds of years ago? Then visit the archaeological Timmerschuur of Hagendoorn.
