National Heritage Site Waterloopbos
Forest full of hydraulic models
In the Waterloopbos, the Dutch learned to work with water, waves, and currents. Our global reputation as a water engineering country is thanks to all the research that took place in this forest. A special place in the Noordoostpolder that we can be proud of.
In the Waterloopbos, you will also find Pavilion Het ProefLab//. This restaurant is a sister company of the Strandhoeve and is the perfect place to enjoy homemade treats before or after your visit to the Waterloopbos with a view of the Deltawerk.
More information
The Rijksmonument Waterloopbos is a historic open-air laboratory in a beautiful polder forest. Here, hundreds of studies were conducted on the behavior of water. You can find remnants of research into the Delta Works, as well as waterworks for exotic locations such as the port of Lagos and that of Bangkok. The forest is freely accessible from sunrise to sunset. Marked hiking trails guide you past the models of waterworks that lie like ruins in the forest.
More information about the Waterloopbos can be found on the Natuurmonumenten website. Here, you can explore the various hiking trails and register for guided walks on the agenda.
